This is one of the most recent developments of the employment standards act in Ontario, which requires every workplace having 20 and more employees to put in place a written Right to Disconnect from Work Policy. In addition to basic compliance with the requirements of the law, this policy provides the rules for your company’s management and employees regarding how and when to communicate with employees that are off-work. It also protects employees’ rights to be free from work and not to be required to perform their duties while off work. At the same time, this policy defines the circumstances in which an employee could be connected by the managers while off work (emergency, no-show, etc.).
